Error – you are not allowed to modify this personal shift override

This error appears when attempting to add or modify a personal shift override for an employee when the shift’s date effective is set before the current open period on the system calendar.

Written by James Pardy

If you see the error “You are not allowed to modify this personal shift override”, it means the system is preventing the override because the shift falls outside the current open calendar period.
Shift overrides can only be applied to shifts that fall within the current open period or in a future period.

Why this error occurs

This error happens when:

  • The date effective on the shift is before the current open period on the system calendar

  • The system calendar does not allow edits or overrides for past or closed periods

  • A personal shift override is being added to a shift that is no longer editable

How to resolve the error

Assign a new shift within the open period

  1. Go to the employee’s profile.

  2. Assign a new shift with a date effective that falls within or after the current open period.

  3. Save the new shift.

  4. Apply the personal shift override to the newly assigned shift.

📌Note: The system does not allow overrides on shifts dated before the current open period.

Always ensure the date effective is within an open calendar period before applying overrides.

If you need to make changes to historical shifts, contact your system administrator to review calendar settings.

🤓Tip: If you frequently see this error, check the system calendar open period before assigning or modifying shift overrides to avoid rework.
