What is Overlapping Absence?
Overlapping Absence occurs when an open-ended absence (such as long-term sickness) overlaps with planned leave (like annual leave or parental leave).
Without proper configuration, this can cause payroll calculation issues, potentially leading to overpayments or incorrect processing of occupational absence.
Benefits of enabling Overlapping Leave and Absence parameters
✅ Automatic notifications when potential overlaps are detected
✅ Improved payroll accuracy for sickness and occupational absence
✅ System-managed closure of open-ended absences where upcoming leave is booked
✅ Reduced admin workload—no need to manually monitor overlapping leave
How to enable Overlapping Leave and Absence parameters
From the WFM Admin Dashboard, select WFM Configuration.
Search for and click the General Settings tile.
Scroll down to the Overlapping Leave and Absence Parameters section.
Switch on the Enable Overlapping Leave and Absence toggle.
⚠️Important: Once you enable this setting, the system will turn off the existing advance overlapping leave parameters automatically. You’ll see a warning message when this happens—this is expected.
Configure the restriction period
The Overlapping Absence Restriction period determines how far ahead the system checks for planned leave.
The default is 7 days, but you can amend this if needed.
For example, setting this to 7 days means the system will check for upcoming leave in the next 7 days from the current open-ended absence.
