Special Days apply additional payments for designated dates, alongside or independently of Holiday Schemes. This article explains how to configure them in Attendance Rules.
Configure Special Day work patterns
Create dedicated work patterns for Special Days using the settings below.
Pattern | Default Start | Default End | Default Hours | Earliest Start |
Pattern 1 (Base) | 00:00 | 06:00 | 6 | 23:00 |
Pattern 2 (Alt) | 08:00 | 16:00 | 8 | 04:00 |
Both patterns require the following settings to be enabled:
Remove Full Day Absence
Always Remove Unapproved Absence
Apply the following Standard Hours Sequences to each pattern:
Pattern 1: 3 sequences, all with Special Day Code (15:00–00:00, 00:00–06:00, 06:00–20:00).
Pattern 2: 1 sequence with Special Day Code (04:00–00:00).
📌Note: Special Day payments apply only from 18:00 to midnight for standard day patterns.
Create Special Day Schemes
Create Special Day Schemes to group relevant dates and link them to the correct work pattern.
🤓Tip: Use the Copy option to duplicate schemes without re-entering dates.
Understand Special Day Priority on Equal Rates
The Special Day Priority on Equal Rates indicator determines which work pattern is used when rates are equal.
Scenario | Result |
Special Day rate higher | Special Day pattern used |
Standard Day rate higher | Standard Day pattern used |
Rates equal + indicator = Y | Special Day pattern used |
Rates equal + indicator = N | Standard Day pattern used |
📌Note: The system does not mix patterns within the same time block — one pattern is used before midnight, one after.
Handle overtime on Special Days
For overtime on Special Days, ensure the relevant pay codes have the following fields completed for both full-time and part-time staff:
Use for Weekly Total Under Contracted Hours.
Use for Weekly Total Under FTE Hours.
Use for Weekly Total Over FTE Hours.
Manage Special Days at year-end
Include Special Day configuration in the WFM Year-End Task List for annual review and date updates. Special Day Schemes must have their dates updated each year.
