Shift Types act as the bridge between Work Patterns and Attendance Calculation Rules. They are created per calculation group and determine which Attendance Rules are applied to each employee.
Minimum required Shift Types per calculation group
Each calculation group requires at least four Shift Types to be configured:
Shift Type | Description | Patterns |
XXXX Resting | Default for all employees | 7 days Rest Day patterns |
XXXX Ordinary Day | Standard working day | 7 days OD patterns, Pattern 1 assigned |
XXXX Overtime | Overtime shifts | 7 days Overtime patterns, Pattern 1 assigned |
XXXX Rest Day Worked | Rest day working | 7 days RDW patterns, Pattern 1 assigned |
Naming convention
Shift Types follow the format: [Calc Group][Sequence Number]
Example: 9005001 = "9005 Resting", 9005002 = "9005 Ordinary Day"
Recommended labels
Label | Meaning |
OD | Ordinary Day |
RW | Rest Day Worked |
OT | Overtime |
RD | Resting |
Assigning Shift Types to employees
Once Shift Types are created, they must be assigned to the relevant employees:
All Attendance staff must be assigned to the Resting Shift Type relevant to their calculation group.
The Shift Type assignment is the determining factor for which Attendance Rules are applied — it overrides the Category field assignment.
This is critical for accurate calculations.
⚠️Important: The Shift Type assignment overrides the Category field. Ensure all Attendance staff are assigned to the correct Resting Shift Type for their calculation group to avoid calculation errors.
Legacy upgrades (Crewplan to new Attendance software)
If you are migrating from Crewplan to the new Attendance software, apply Shift Types with a date effective from the prior year. This ensures that Prior Work Arrangement (PWA) calculations are fully processed using the new Attendance Rules.
📌Note: Applying an effective date from the prior year is required for legacy upgrades only. This ensures historical PWA calculations are captured correctly under the new rules.
